| Small bridge on display on the Heritage Center grounds—see text for more details |
Baxter Springs, Kansas
The Baxter Springs Historical Society operates the 20,000-square-foot Baxter Springs Heritage Center & Museum about one block east of Route 66.
On the museum grounds, the bridge pictured at right crosses a small creek. The accompanying sign states: “This small bridge is the last of its kind in Cherokee County. Given to the Historical Society by the County Commissioners, it was moved to this site in 1994 from the northwest corner of the county.”

Also on the museum grounds are a railroad caboose and a very old log cabin. Inside, besides the many displays, the Historical Society offers guides to both walking and driving tours of the area, covering dozens of sites of historical significance.
