International Walldog Mural & Sign Art Museum
Pontiac, Illinois
![]() |
The International Walldog Mural & Sign Art Museum is specifically dedicated to the craft of mural and sign art painting. The exhibits depict the craft in various ways: how the craft has evolved over the years and the different methods in which mural and sign art is created.
The painted ads on the exterior walls of downtown buildings are examples of the sign painter or muralist's craft, a technique that has been around for many years. In fact, during the construction of this museum, a faded sign from an old clothing company, sometimes called a “ghost mural,” was uncovered on one of the walls.
Celebrating the artistry of the past and the growing Walldog movement of the present, the museum displays examples, videos and historic photos. In addition, the museum has an art gallery featuring unique art for sale created by muralists and other local artists.
Our fair city of Pontiac, Illinois is also home to 19 historic wall-sized murals (including one of the largest Route 66 shields) that were painted by artists from around the world. Open daily; donations accepted.
