Galena, Kansas
Just two miles or so south of Route 66 and the town of Galena is Schermerhorn Park, notable in part for its WPA-constructed stone terracing.
The park also contains a cavern and lots of well-documented wildlife, including flying squirrels (the visitor center is chock-full of skins, bones, antlers, photographs, etc. as proof of nature's riches in the area).
