Just west of Paris Springs, on a long-bypassed section of Route 66, sits the tiny village of Spencer. As you approach from the east, you'll cross over a very old truss bridge just before arriving at a cluster of buildings.
In recent years the small group of buildings representing Spencer's modest business district has received coats of paint and other gestures of tender loving care. The garage even sports vintage Phillips gasoline pumps out front.
Spencer was frozen in time many decades ago when U.S. 66 was realigned along a more direct route. If you're not careful, you might completely miss Spencer while following a more modern—but less interesting—portion of the highway.
