LINCOLN, Ill. - The Danner Trust, which works to encourage and aid preservation and restoration of historical locations in Central Illinois, has provided grant money to replace windows at The Mill, according to a news release from The Route 66 Heritage Foundation of Logan County.

The foundation is working to restore the former restaurant on Old Route 66 as a tourist attraction.

More than 40 windows in the building, many of them broken, will be replaced with new windows. The grant will cover the cost of about $17,000 to $18,000 in materials and labor, which will be contracted locally.

"We are pleased to be a part of the Route 66-Mill project with this gift that will help in the restoration and preservation of Logan County's history," said Judy Cavestani, an administrator for the Danner Trust.

Cavestani worked closely with Geoff Ladd, chairman of the Route 66 Heritage Foundation, during the grant submission.

"When we announced Larry Van Bibber's donation toward the Mill roofing project, we also mentioned the need for new windows," Ladd said. "The Danner Trust stepped up to the plate, and has been fantastic to work with. We are incredibly grateful that this grant has come through. I want to thank Judy and the entire Danner Trust."

Ladd also announced a volunteer work day at The Mill on May 10. People interested in working should contact the Heritage Foundation at 732-8687.
