States to Consolidate Tourism Info

Officials in Miami, Oklahoma want to jump start tourism, but not just in Oklahoma. They want people to come to Kansas and Missouri as well.

Officials are applying for a $50,000 grant to put together a three state Route 66 tourism guide.

The guide will highlight attractions and events from Vinita, Oklahoma all the way to Carthage, Missouri.

Miami's Director of Community Development, Larry Eller, says Route 66 attracts visitors from all over the world, and officials are trying to make it easier to find every attraction.

"The problem is, we in the three state area are really bound together in a lot of ways, but our tourists aren't, every time a tourist comes into a new state they have to get a new traveler's guide," Eller says.

The deadline to submit the grant request is April 2.

Miami officials say they feel good about their chances because of the unique collaboration from three states.
