LINCOLN, Ill. - Abe Lincoln and Route 66 share top billing on the cover of Logan Countys brand new visitors guide.
The cover of the guide is emblazoned with the new logo adopted by the Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County, as well as photos of local people and events.
The logo was designed by McDaniels' Marketing in Pekin. It shows Abe Lincoln tipping his top hat as he drives Illinois U.S. Route 66 in a red convertible.
Bureau director Geoff Ladd said the logo, which features the main themes of tourism in Logan County, will be used in future marketing campaigns.
"We needed to update our offerings and do it in a fun and visually exciting way," Ladd said. "The logo, the imagery, the organization of the guide — all were designed to get the tourists' interest and give them everything they need and keep them smiling, too."
The 47-page guide, also designed by McDaniels', replaces the Historic Lincoln/Logan County brochure. It includes the main tourism attractions and events in the area.
Funding for the guide came from a grant from the Illinois Bureau of Tourism and from area advertising.
"This new design incorporates advertising from tourism-based businesses and events in order to showcase more of what Logan County has to offer," Ladd said. "Readers will find much more information than was available in the older version."
The new booklet includes an updated shopping and dining guide; a calendar of events for 2008 and 2009; more pictures of attractions emphasizing the rich history and bright future of Logan County; and GPS coordinates for many locations (especially hard-to-find attractions).
People who are interested in obtaining the new visitors' guide and checking out what Logan County has to offer have several ways to get a print copy.
The guide can be requested by calling 732-8687, or by completing a request form online at www.abe66.com. It will also be distributed to tourism information centers throughout Illinois and will be available in many hotels and at tourism attractions throughout the area.
By April 1, visitors can also download the PDF version of the visitor's guide directly to their computers from the Web site.
