The Mill Celebrating Anniversary
LINCOLN, Ill. - Saturday, July 25, 2009 the Route 66 Heritage Foundation of Logan County will be hosting a huge celebration in honor of the 80th Anniversary of The Mill. Along with reaching this great milestone, the foundation has a lot more to celebrate. The Mill on 66 was recently inducted into the Route 66 Association of Illinois Hall of Fame.
The Mill officially opened July 25, 1929. Paul Coddington was the original owner. It was saved from demolition in 2006 by the Route 66 Heritage Foundation of Logan County. The 501 C3 not-for-profit foundation formed to not only save The Mill but to also preserve and promote the history of Route 66 in Logan County.
Festivities kick off at noon with speakers and awards. Music and food will be filling the afternoon, starting at 1 pm. The Cell will sponsor two acoustic duos BOP Project, from San Jose, IL and The Bob Clymers from Eureka, IL will perform. Lincolnland Catering will be on hand at The Mill selling Route 66 Pronto pups and more. The afternoon will include an informal car & motorcycle show, door prizes and 50/50 drawings.
The evening will be full of some special events. At 4 pm there will be a free presentation given by Spirits of…Tours. "Coon Hound" Johnny and "Old Mill" Blossom will recall Broads and Bootlegging of Logan County. Following that will be dinner at Hallie’s on the Square starting at 6 pm. They will be offering schnitzel specials. The Spirits of…Tours will host a paranormal investigation at The Mill as the evening unfolds. The investigation will be held at 8 pm, and is $20 per person. This event looks to be an exciting and wonderful family event. Sponsors include the Route 66 Heritage Foundation of Logan County, WLCN Radio, The Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County, Spirits of…Tours, Lincolnland Catering, Hallies on the Square and The Cell, Inc.
