Chicago Offers Route 66 Experience
Travelers who want to see America's famous Route 66 have been encouraged to start their journey in Chicago.
Jan Kostner, deputy director of the Chicago and Illinois Tourist Office, said that the city provides a range of experiences that can enhance a visit to the US.
Visitors are offered urban attractions and amenities, as well as the opportunity to get out on the open road to explore rural areas.
She recommended spending some time in Chicago and visiting famous sites such as Grant Park, before going for a drive along a stretch of Route 66.
'You can have a wonderful city experience and then you can get on the road and have that rural experience, where you [have] got wonderful diners and different stops along the way,' Ms Kostner said.
'They're very proud of their Route 66 heritage and some of the diners have been around since the 30s and 40s, when the highway was first built.'
Route 66 was established in 1926 and runs from Chicago to Los Angeles.
