Museum Construction to Begin
LITCHFIELD, Ill. - During the November business meeting of the Litchfield Museum and Route 66 Welcome Center Association, the members approved the building design by John Fletcher and Larry Pence.
United Builders will start construction in the spring of 2012. The 4,600 square foot building will be located on historic Route 66 across from Jubelts and the Ariston.
The museum will house Litchfield artifacts and memorabilia and highlight the city's history and growth.
Space will be provided for the Litchfield Tourism Coordinator and the Litchfield Chamber of Commerce to welcome visitors and highlight the city's businesses, attractions and opportunities.
Also included will be space for the Montgomery County Genealogy Society to house their historical documents to assist those researching family histories.
Tourist information and a history of Route 66 will also have a place in the building.
